Epidemiological Methods and Etiologic Research
The Department of Epidemiological Methods and Etiological Research integrates core areas of epidemiological research in occupational and environmental epidemiology.
The increasing need to investigate the interplay of complex exposures of the modern environment and to overcome difficulties regarding validation and quantification of these exposures, requires both, sophisticated statistical methods as well as considerable efforts in exposure assessment.
The Unit Field Work forms an integral part of the department. Competences in the development and performance of large epidemiological studies, which have been acquired during years of research, are combined in this unit that serves the entire institute. This facilitates the accomplishment of studies, development of new methods, and the compilation of a comprehensive standardised inventory of methods and instruments. All this guarantees a high data quality in accordance with the guidelines of 'Good Epidemiological Practice' and is particularly important for:
- the specification of research hypotheses
- the planning of study designs
- the development and adaptation of research instruments
- statistical analyses
Available research instruments will be applied in
- cross-sectional studies
- case-control-studies
- cohort studies
- intervention studies
- evaluation of drug therapy and measures of health promotion
- evaluation of medical care
The accomplishment of data collection as well as support for the planning and implementation of field work and methodological questions are also offered to external institutions and cooperating partners.
The list shows only projects for which the department has the main scientific responsibility. It only includes those projects that are currently running or that ended less than a year ago. The entries are sorted alphabetically.
