Working Group Women and Gender Studies
The activities of the working group "Women and Gender Studies" are being continued in the research field "Gender and Health" in the Unit Social Epidemiology. They focus on two areas:
- In the field of women's health research it focuses on women specific risks and diseases (at present especially menopause and hysteropathies) and on research with and in women as target group (women specific research).
- In the field of gender research the methodological perspective of avoiding gender bias in public health (research, practice, politics) has come to the fore. Design, dissemination, realisation, and evaluation of implementation concepts for gender mainstreaming in the field of health are currently in the center of interest.
The connecting clamp constitutes the establishment of a gender appropriate view on health and health care which can be resumed in three central questions:
- How can gender inequalities in health be reduced?
- How can the quality of health care be improved by taking into account services that meet gender needs and necessities?
- What can be suggested to avoid gender bias in public health research effectively?
In all projects the group collaborates with internal and external partners. It is involved in the relevant regional and national networks and scientific associations (e.g. Bremen Forum Women's Health, Gender Studies Unit - University Bremen, National Network Women and Health, section "Women and Gender Specific Health Research" of the German Association for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP)).
