GErman POpulation Based LOng Term follow-up of ADHD

Description

The attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents in Germany will be investigated in a pilot study consisting of 3 parts.
Part 1 consists of a database pilot-cohort study of approximately 90,000 children with an incident diagnosis of ADHD and controls without ADHD matched by age, sex and place of residence. Several health related outcomes will be investigated in children with ADHD compared to children without ADHD. The long term course of ADHD will be investigated in relation to the treatment administered. Predictors of the course of the disease will be identified.
Part 2 consists of a case-crossover study which will investigate the influence of drug therapy on the known increased risk of injuries in children with ADHD .
Part 3 consists of a feasibility study for a field part of the cohort-study which will investigate the feasibility of recruitment of study participants and the research tools. The negative and positive predictive value of diagnoses in the database will be determined by using neuropsychological examinations as gold standard. More than 600 children will be included in this part.
